Custom machine learning flashcards, built from your material

Chris Albon's machine learning flashcards are a ready-made set, and they are a useful reference for the basics. Chris Albon-style AI flashcards work differently: you upload your own course material and get cards that match your lectures, not a fixed list.

  • Upload lecture slides, PDFs, DOCX files, notes or photos of printed pages
  • Cards cover the terms in your course, such as precision, recall and gradient descent
  • Spaced repetition schedules reviews around the cards you find hard
  • Free plan includes 3 generations per month and browser study; Plus adds PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export
Example machine learning flashcards
What is overfitting?A model learns noise in the training data, so it scores well on training data but poorly on new data. More data and regularization help.
What does the bias-variance tradeoff describe?High bias means the model is too simple and underfits; high variance means it is too sensitive to the training data and overfits. Reducing one often increases the other.
What is a confusion matrix?A table of true positives, false positives, true negatives and false negatives that compares a classifier's predictions with the actual labels.
What does precision measure? The share of predicted positives that are truly positive, calculated as TP / (TP + FP). It is the metric to watch when false positives are costly.
What is gradient descent? An optimization method that repeatedly adjusts model parameters in the direction that lowers the loss, with the size of each step set by the learning rate.

Upload what you already have

Add PDFs, DOCX files, PPTX slides, plain-text notes or photos of printed pages. Photos are read with text recognition.

Spaced repetition

Cards you miss come back sooner, and cards you know are spaced further apart, so review time goes to the concepts you find hard.

Quizzes and mind maps too

Turn the same material into multiple choice, true/false and short answer quizzes with explanations, or into a mind map of the topic.

How it works

Upload your material

Drop in a lecture PDF, a slide deck, a notes file or a photo of a page. No credit card is needed to start.

Review the generated cards

DeckOwl creates flashcards from your content. Edit or remove any card before you study.

Study on a spaced schedule

Work through the deck in the browser. Cards you miss return more often until they stick.

DeckOwl reads PDF, DOCX and PPTX files, plain-text notes, and photos of pages using text recognition. The cards are scheduled with spaced repetition, so the terms you miss, such as precision, recall or overfitting, come back more often. The same material can also produce quizzes and mind maps.

Frequently asked questions

What machine learning terms should a flashcard deck cover?

A useful deck covers core definitions such as overfitting, the bias-variance tradeoff, precision, recall, and gradient descent, plus the formulas and metrics your course uses. Add the terms from your own syllabus so the deck matches what will be tested.

How often should I review machine learning flashcards?

Short daily sessions work better than long cram sessions, because spaced repetition depends on seeing each card again after a gap. Review the cards you missed more often than the ones you know.

Can I export these flashcards to Anki?

Yes, Anki export is available on the Plus plan, which costs $39/year or $7.99/month. Plus also includes PDF, DOCX and CSV export and unlimited generations.

Can I try it before paying?

Yes. The free plan includes 3 generations per month and studying in the browser, and no credit card is needed to start. Students with a school email get 40% off Plus.
