What a strong card looks like

Strong Anki card examples ask one specific question and give an answer short enough to recall in a few seconds. A card that asks you to list five steps of a process is hard to grade and easy to skip, so break it into smaller cards that each test one step.

  • Test one fact or relationship per card.
  • Keep answers short enough to say aloud from memory.
  • Add a brief why only when it helps you recall the answer.
  • Review your generated cards once before adding them to a deck.
Example immune system Anki cards
What is the main difference between innate and adaptive immunity?Innate immunity responds within minutes to hours with general defenses, while adaptive immunity builds a targeted response over days. This matters because adaptive immunity also creates memory.
What do activated B cells mature into to produce antibodies?Plasma cells. Their main job is secreting large amounts of antibody.
Which white blood cells does HIV primarily infect?CD4+ helper T cells. Losing them weakens coordination of the adaptive immune response.
What does the complement system do?It coats pathogens, recruits immune cells and can lyse some bacteria. It amplifies antibody and phagocyte responses.
Why does vaccination create immunological memory? It exposes B and T cells to harmless antigens so memory cells form. Memory cells respond faster and stronger on later exposure.

Built from your files

Upload PDFs, DOCX, PPTX, plain text notes or photos of pages, and get flashcards drawn from your own material.

Spaced repetition

Cards come back at growing intervals so you review what you are about to forget, not everything every day.

Export to Anki

On the Plus plan, export your cards to Anki, PDF, DOCX or CSV so you can keep studying wherever you already work.

How it works

Upload your material

Add a lecture PDF, slide deck, set of notes or a photo of a textbook page.

Review the cards

Check each question and answer, and edit or delete any card that tests more than one fact.

Study on a schedule

Study in the browser with spaced repetition, or export to Anki and continue there.

The immune system unit below shows the pattern. Each front asks for one mechanism, cell type or definition, and each back gives the answer plus a brief reason you can use to check your understanding. Copy the structure with your own lecture notes and you will have a usable deck.

Once you have a sample pattern, you can skip writing cards by hand. Upload the source material and DeckOwl drafts flashcards in the same style, which you can then edit before studying.

Frequently asked questions

How many flashcards should I make for an immune system unit?

Start with one card for each key term, cell type or mechanism, which often means 20 to 40 cards for a single lecture. If a card tests two facts at once, split it into two cards.

How do I write a good Anki card?

Ask one clear question and keep the answer short enough to recall quickly. Add context only when it helps you remember the answer, and rewrite any card you keep getting wrong.

Can I export my cards to Anki?

Yes, Anki export is included with the Plus plan at $39/year or $7.99/month. The free plan lets you study in the browser but does not include exports.

Do I need a credit card to try it?

No. You can start on the free plan, which includes 3 generations per month, without adding a credit card.
