Why build your own HSK deck

Many learners preparing for HSK look for a ready-made HSK Anki deck, but a generic list rarely matches the textbook, course or practice test you are using. A deck built from your own material keeps the vocabulary, example sentences and order aligned with what you will be tested on.

  • Use the exact word list from your course so the deck matches your level
  • Put pinyin and meaning on the back, with one example sentence per word
  • Review a short set every day instead of cramming before a test
  • Export to Anki on Plus if you prefer studying on your phone or computer
Example HSK 1 vocabulary flashcards
你好 (nǐ hǎo)Hello. A common greeting that works in most everyday situations.
谢谢 (xièxie)Thank you. Add 不客气 (bù kèqi) as the usual reply, meaning you are welcome.
老师 (lǎoshī)Teacher. Often used with a surname, as in 王老师, meaning Teacher Wang.
学生 (xuésheng)Student. Note that 学 (xué) means to learn and 生 (shēng) means born or life.
再见 (zàijiàn)Goodbye. Used when you expect to see the person again, though not always soon.

Built from your own material

Upload a word list, textbook chapter or photo of your notes, and the flashcards follow the words you actually need to learn.

Spaced repetition

Cards you miss come back sooner, and words you know are spaced further apart, so review time goes to the vocabulary that needs it.

Export to Anki on Plus

Plus includes Anki export along with PDF, DOCX and CSV export. The free plan lets you study in the browser.

How it works

Upload your HSK material

Add a PDF, slides, a text file or a photo of the vocabulary pages from your course or textbook.

Review the generated cards

Check the characters, pinyin and meanings, then remove anything you do not need or edit the wording.

Study or export

Study in the browser with spaced repetition, or export to Anki on Plus once you want the deck on your own devices.

Start with the word lists your teacher or course provides. Each card can show the hanzi with pinyin on one side and the meaning and a short example sentence on the other, so you practice recognition and usage together.

Review new words daily and let spaced repetition bring back the ones you miss. Once the core vocabulary feels stable, add new chapters and keep the same routine.

Frequently asked questions

How should I study HSK vocabulary with flashcards?

Put the hanzi and pinyin on one side and the meaning and a short example sentence on the other. Review a small set daily and give more time to the words you keep missing.

Should I learn to recognize characters or write them?

For most HSK levels, recognizing characters and knowing their meanings comes first, since reading is tested heavily. Add handwriting practice for the words you use often.

Can I export my HSK cards to Anki?

Yes, export to Anki is included in the Plus plan at $39/year or $7.99/month. The free plan lets you study in the browser, without exports.

Do I need a credit card to try it?

No, you can start on the free plan without a credit card. It includes 3 generations per month and browser study.
