Khan Academy MCAT practice questions, plus ones from your own notes

Free practice sets are a fair place to start, but the best test of any question bank is whether it matches the reasoning the MCAT demands. DeckOwl turns your own material into multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer questions with explanations, so you can compare the two side by side.

How to judge whether a question bank is good enough

Deciding whether Khan Academy MCAT practice questions are good enough usually comes down to one test: do they make you reason through a passage or a multi-step science problem, or do they only check recall? A question bank can be accurate and still be too easy or too narrow for the exam.

  • Do the questions require applying a concept, not just naming it?
  • Do the explanations say why each wrong answer is wrong?
  • Does the difficulty and format resemble the passage-based sections of the exam?
  • Do the topics match your own course notes and the review you are doing?
Example MCAT biochemistry and chemistry practice questions
Which organelle is the main site of oxidative phosphorylation in eukaryotic cells? The inner mitochondrial membrane, because the electron transport chain and ATP synthase are embedded there and use the proton gradient across it.
In Michaelis-Menten kinetics, what does Km represent? The substrate concentration at which the reaction rate is half of Vmax, which is a measure of enzyme affinity for its substrate.
Why does a competitive inhibitor increase the apparent Km but leave Vmax unchanged? It competes with substrate for the active site, so more substrate is needed to reach half Vmax, but enough substrate can still reach the same maximum rate.
Which standard amino acid does not have a chiral alpha carbon?Glycine, because its side chain is a hydrogen atom, so the alpha carbon carries two identical hydrogens.
What does Boyle's law state for a fixed amount of gas at constant temperature?Pressure is inversely proportional to volume, so the product PV stays constant.

Questions from your own material

Upload PDFs, slides, DOCX files, plain notes or photos of textbook pages and get practice questions written from that content.

Explanations for every answer

Each question comes with an explanation so you can see why the right choice works and why the distractors fail.

Spaced repetition for weak spots

Flashcards use spaced repetition, so topics you miss come back more often until they stick.

How it works

Upload your study material

Add a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, text file or photo of pages. Images are read with text recognition.

Choose a question type

Pick multiple-choice, true/false or short-answer questions, then generate a set in a few seconds.

Check the questions against your sources

Work through the set, read the explanations, and compare the difficulty with the practice you already use.

A practical check is to take a set of questions from any source, note which ones you got wrong and why, and see whether the explanations clarify the reasoning. Then generate questions from your own lecture notes or textbook chapters and run the same check. If the two sets test similar skills, the source you already use is doing its job.

Frequently asked questions

How do I tell if MCAT practice questions are good?

Look for questions that test reasoning rather than recall, explanations that explain why wrong answers fail, and a format close to the passage-based sections of the exam. Comparing a sample with official AAMC practice materials is a useful benchmark.

How many practice questions should I do for each MCAT content area?

There is no fixed number that works for everyone. Many students work through a set after each content review and track which topics they miss most, then return to those topics before moving on.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. The Free plan includes 3 generations per month and lets you study in the browser. No credit card is needed to start.

Can I export generated questions to other tools?

Exports are paid features. PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV exports are on Plus, and QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML exports are on Pro.
