Why a custom quiz beats a ready-made worksheet

Many teachers and students look for a ready-made English vocabulary quiz with answers, and a printed worksheet can cover a single lesson. A generic sheet, though, rarely matches the words in your textbook unit or the terms from last week's reading.

  • Questions match the words in your own unit or reading
  • Each answer includes a one-sentence explanation
  • Multiple-choice, true/false and short answer formats
  • Free plan to start, with no credit card required
Example English vocabulary quiz questions with answers
Which word means lasting for only a very short time: ephemeral, verbose or benevolent?Ephemeral. It comes from a Greek root meaning lasting only a day, so it describes things that fade quickly.
Is this statement true or false? Ubiquitous means rare and hard to find.False. Ubiquitous means present or found everywhere, so it is the opposite of rare.
Which word is a synonym of benevolent: cruel, kind or tired?Kind. Benevolent describes someone who is well-meaning and generous toward others.
What does the prefix mis- mean in the word misjudge?Wrongly or badly. Misjudge means to judge something incorrectly.
Which word is an antonym of verbose?Concise. Verbose means using more words than needed, while concise means brief and to the point.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write good explanations for vocabulary answers?

State the meaning in plain words, then add one clue such as a root, a prefix or a short sentence using the word. Keep it to one or two sentences so students actually read it.

How many vocabulary words should one quiz cover?

Around 10 to 20 words works well for one session, so students can review every answer. Build each quiz from one unit or one reading at a time.

Can I export the quiz to a printable file?

The free plan studies in the browser without exports. PDF and DOCX export are included with Plus, and QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export come with Pro.

Do I need a credit card to try it?

No. You can start on the free plan, which includes 3 generations per month, without adding a credit card.
