Quizzes from your notes, and a note on QR codes

A free online quiz maker works best when the questions come from your own course material rather than a generic template.

  • Multiple choice, true/false and short-answer questions
  • An explanation for every answer, so wrong picks still teach you something
  • 3 free generations a month, with no credit card to start
  • Export to PDF, DOCX or Anki on the Plus plan
Example QR code quiz questions
What do the three large square patterns in three corners of a QR code help a scanner do?They are finder patterns that let the scanner locate the code and work out its orientation, so it knows where the grid begins.
Which QR error correction level recovers about 30 percent of damaged data?Level H. It has the most redundancy, so it tolerates the most damage, but the code becomes denser.
How wide should the quiet zone around a QR code be, in modules?Four modules of blank space on every side. The scanner uses it to separate the code from surrounding content.
True or false: a dynamic QR code lets you change its destination after printing.True. It points to a redirect service, so the target URL can be edited without reprinting, but that service must stay active.
Which QR encoding mode packs long uppercase text most efficiently?Alphanumeric mode. It stores uppercase letters, digits and a few symbols more compactly than byte mode.

How it works

Upload your material

Add a PDF, slides, a Word file, notes or a photo of a page.

Choose question types

Pick multiple choice, true/false or short answer, or a mix of them.

Answer and review

Work through the questions and read the explanation after each one.

DeckOwl does not create QR codes and has no QR code feature. It generates multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer questions from your PDFs, slides or notes, each with an explanation, so you can test yourself before an exam.

If you also need a QR code for a printed handout, create it with a separate QR code tool and link it to your quiz or study set.

Frequently asked questions

How do QR codes store data?

A QR code encodes data as a grid of black and white modules, using modes such as numeric, alphanumeric and byte. Error correction lets it still scan when part of the code is damaged or covered.

Which error correction level should a QR code use?

Levels L, M, Q and H recover roughly 7, 15, 25 and 30 percent of the data. Higher levels tolerate more damage but make the code denser, so H suits codes that may get dirty or partly covered.

Does DeckOwl create QR codes?

No. DeckOwl generates quizzes, flashcards and mind maps from your material, but it does not make QR codes.

Is the free plan enough to try it?

The free plan includes 3 generations per month and studying in the browser. Exports and unlimited generations are on Plus, at $39 a year or $7.99 a month.
