Turn code lecture notes into quiz questions with AI
DeckOwl writes quiz questions about programming from your own material. It does not write quiz code for websites or apps.
What a code quiz generator can and cannot do
Programming courses move quickly, and a code quiz generator is only useful if its questions match what you were taught. DeckOwl builds questions from your own notes, slides or readings, so the syntax, examples and terms come from your course.
- Good for syntax, output tracing and complexity questions
- Questions come from your lecture notes or slides
- Explanations show why each wrong option fails
- Free plan includes 3 generations per month with browser study
Questions from your own code notes
Upload lecture notes, slides or PDFs on programming and get multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer questions.
Explanations for every answer
Each question comes with a short explanation, so a wrong answer still teaches the concept behind the right one.
Export when you need it
Plus adds PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export. Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML for course platforms.
How it works
Upload your material
Add a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, plain text notes or a photo of a page.
Choose question types
Pick multiple-choice, true/false or short answer, then generate your quiz.
Review and practice
Check the explanations, then study in the browser or export the quiz.
DeckOwl does not write a working quiz app, HTML page or grading script. If you need quiz code for a website, a web developer or a coding assistant is the right tool. For studying programming concepts, the questions and explanations are what you need.

Frequently asked questions
Does DeckOwl write quiz code for me?
No. DeckOwl creates quiz questions and explanations from your notes, slides or PDFs about programming. It does not produce HTML, JavaScript or other source code for a quiz app.
How many questions should I make for a code quiz?
For one lecture on code, 10 to 20 questions across multiple-choice and true/false usually cover the key syntax and concepts. Add some short-answer questions that ask what a snippet prints, since they test understanding better than recall.
Which code topics work best for generated quizzes?
Topics with clear right answers work best, such as data types, loops, scope, Big-O basics, SQL joins and the output of a given snippet. Review each question once, because any tool can misread a complicated code sample.
Can I export a code quiz to Moodle?
Yes, but Moodle XML and QTI 2.1 export are on the Pro plan at $14.99/month. PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export are included in Plus at $99.90/year or $9.99/month.
