Turn your code notes into multiple-choice questions with AI

DeckOwl does not create Gimkit join codes. It builds multiple-choice, true/false and open questions from your programming notes, slides or PDFs, so you can run a Kahoot-style review yourself.

What a gimkit code generator can and cannot make

Gimkit join codes are issued by the game itself when a host starts a session, so a gimkit code generator cannot produce one for you. What it can produce is the question set you would play with, built from the code topics you are studying.

  • Multiple-choice questions that show why each wrong option fails
  • True/false items for checking syntax and output rules
  • Open questions that ask you to explain what a block of code does
  • Exports to PDF, DOCX, Anki or CSV on paid plans
Example Python and SQL practice questions
In Python, what does len([1, 2, 2, 3]) return?4. len counts every element in the list, including duplicates, because it counts positions rather than unique values.
What does 7 // 2 evaluate to in Python?3. The double slash performs floor division, which discards the remainder.
Can a JavaScript variable declared with let be read outside its enclosing block? No. let is block-scoped, so it is only visible inside the braces where it was declared.
What does print(0.1 + 0.2 == 0.3) output in Python?False. Floating-point numbers are stored in binary, so 0.1 + 0.2 is slightly larger than 0.3.
Which SQL clause filters groups after GROUP BY has aggregated the rows?HAVING. WHERE filters individual rows before grouping, while HAVING filters the groups produced by aggregate functions.

Works from your own material

Upload PDFs, DOCX files, slides, plain text notes or photos of a whiteboard. Text is read from images, so handwritten code examples can be included.

Explanations on every question

Each multiple-choice, true/false and short answer question comes with an explanation, so you learn why a line of code produces its output.

Spaced repetition for review

Flashcards and quizzes come back at intervals that match how well you remember them, so syntax and concepts stick before an exam.

How it works

Upload your notes

Add a PDF, slide deck or text file covering the topic, such as loops, SQL joins or recursion.

Choose the question type

Pick multiple-choice, true/false or open questions, then generate a set from your material.

Review and study

Answer each question, read the explanation, and revisit missed items until you can explain the code without looking.

Paste lecture notes on Python loops, JavaScript scope or SQL aggregation, and DeckOwl returns questions with explanations you can read after each answer. The free plan includes 3 generations a month and browser study. Plus adds unlimited generations and PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export, and Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export.

Frequently asked questions

How do I study code effectively with practice questions?

Answer each question before reading the explanation, then retype the relevant code from memory to confirm it. Revisit missed questions after a day or two so the material stays in memory.

What kinds of code questions work best for review?

Questions about output, error messages and what a specific line does test understanding better than memorized definitions. Multiple-choice items with short explanations help you see the reasoning behind the correct answer.

Does DeckOwl create Gimkit join codes?

No. Gimkit generates join codes when you host a game, so DeckOwl cannot make them. It creates the questions you can use in your own review session.

Can I export the questions I generate?

Exports to PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV are on the Plus plan at $39/year or $7.99/month. QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export are included with the Pro plan at $14.99/month.
