Make your own quiz questions from notes, PDFs or slides
DeckOwl is not Gimkit and can't create a Gimkit login. What it does is turn your own material into multiple-choice, true/false and short answer questions, each with an explanation.
What a Gimkit account is for, and what DeckOwl does instead
If you came here looking to set up a new Gimkit account, you will need to sign up through Gimkit directly, since DeckOwl is a separate tool and cannot create accounts on other services.
- Multiple-choice, true/false and short answer questions from your own files
- An explanation written for every question, so wrong answers teach something
- Spaced repetition on Plus and Pro for the cards you miss most
- Export to Anki, PDF, DOCX, CSV, QTI 2.1 or Moodle XML on the paid plans
Upload what you already have
Add a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, plain text notes, or a photo of a page. Text is read from images too.
Questions with explanations
Every multiple-choice, true/false and short answer question comes with an explanation so you learn why an answer is right.
Export when you need it
Study in the browser on the free plan. Plus adds PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export, and Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML.
How it works
Sign up free
Start without a credit card. The free plan includes 3 generations per month.
Upload your material
Choose a PDF, slide deck, DOCX, or paste your notes. Photos of pages work too.
Review and quiz yourself
Answer the generated questions, read each explanation, and repeat the questions you missed.
DeckOwl works from the material you already study. Upload your lecture slides or chapter notes and it writes practice questions tied to that exact content, with explanations for each answer.
Questions can be reviewed in the browser for free, and paid plans let you export them to PDF, DOCX or Anki for use outside the app.

Frequently asked questions
How many practice questions should I make from one chapter?
Start with 15 to 20 questions covering the main terms, processes and exceptions in the chapter. Once you can answer most of them without looking, add harder short answer questions.
How do I know if I really remember a quiz answer?
Close your notes, answer the question out loud or on paper, then compare with the explanation. If you miss it twice in a row, shorten the gap before you see it again.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The free plan gives you 3 generations per month and lets you study in the browser, but it does not include exports.
Can I export quizzes to Moodle?
Moodle XML export is included in the Pro plan at $14.99 per month. Plus at $39 per year or $7.99 per month includes PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export.
