How should I study debits and credits for an accounting exam?

Start with the accounting equation and the normal balance of each account type, then record simple transactions as journal entries. Explaining why each entry balances will help you more than memorizing rules.

What is a good way to practice journal entries?

Work through one transaction at a time and write the entry before you check the answer. Review every entry where debits and credits do not match, since those mistakes show where the concept is unclear.
