What a Gimkit URL is, and what DeckOwl can do instead

A Gimkit URL is the join link or code a game host shares so players can enter a Gimkit game. DeckOwl does not host those games, so that link has to come from your teacher or the person running the session.

  • Ask your teacher or game host for the current join link or code, since links change between sessions.
  • Upload your own PDF, slides or notes to create questions that match what you are studying.
  • Use true/false and multiple-choice formats to check key facts quickly before a review session.
  • Read the explanation after each answer so missed questions become useful practice.
Example URL structure quiz questions
In https://www.example.com/lessons, which part tells the browser how to connect? The scheme, https://. It specifies the protocol the browser uses to reach the server.
In https://shop.example.com/search?item=lamp, what does ?item=lamp represent?A query string with a key and value, passed to the server after the question mark.
True or false: a URL can contain literal spaces.False. Spaces are replaced with percent encoding, such as %20, so the address can be read correctly.
In http://localhost:8080, what does 8080 identify?A port number, the specific network endpoint on that host where the server is listening.
In https://example.com/docs/unit3/index.html, which part is the path?/docs/unit3/index.html, because the path follows the domain and locates the resource on the server.

Frequently asked questions

Does DeckOwl give me a Gimkit URL?

No. DeckOwl does not host or join Gimkit games, so the join link has to come from your teacher or the game host. You can use DeckOwl to make your own quiz questions from study material instead.

What parts of a URL should I be able to identify?

Most URL questions ask you to name the protocol such as https, the domain, the path, the query string after a question mark, and sometimes the port number. Labeling several example addresses usually works better than memorizing the whole structure.

How can I practice URL structure before a quiz?

Write five or six sample addresses, label each part, then make a true/false set that tests the rules, such as whether spaces are allowed in a URL. Use the explanations to check any answer you missed.

Are exports included in the free plan?

No. The free plan includes 3 generations per month and study in the browser, but no exports. PDF and DOCX export are on Plus, and QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export are on Pro.
