Give different points for different answers in your quiz
Upload PDFs, slides, DOCX files or notes and get multiple-choice, true/false and short answer questions with explanations. Then set up scoring that fits how you grade.
How scoring works in Google Forms and where it stops
Teachers often ask how to give different points for different answers in a Google Forms quiz. Google Forms assigns points to a whole question, so in its standard settings one answer option cannot carry more credit than another. The common workarounds are to split the question into smaller parts, weight the question itself, or add a script or add-on for partial credit.
- Each question carries one point value in Google Forms by default.
- Splitting a question into parts lets each part earn its own points.
- Weighting harder questions more heavily reflects their importance in the total score.
- Check that point values add up to your target total before you publish the quiz.
Questions from your own material
Upload PDFs, DOCX files, PPTX slides, plain text or photos of pages, and get a quiz built from that content.
Explanations for every question
Each multiple-choice, true/false and short answer question comes with an explanation, so a wrong answer teaches something.
Export when you need it
Export to PDF and DOCX on Plus, and to QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML on Pro, to reuse the quiz in other systems.
How it works
Upload your notes
Add a PDF, slide deck, Word file, text notes or a photo of a textbook page.
Choose question types
Pick multiple choice, true/false or short answer, then review each question and its explanation.
Study or export
Study in the browser on the free plan, or export the finished quiz as PDF or DOCX on Plus.
DeckOwl starts from the material you already have. Upload PDFs, slides, DOCX files, plain notes or photos of pages, and it generates multiple-choice, true/false and short answer questions with explanations. You can review and edit each question before you study or export it.
Exports include PDF and DOCX on Plus, and QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML on Pro, so a finished quiz can be imported into other systems where your scoring rules are set up.

Frequently asked questions
Can Google Forms give different point values to individual answer choices?
Not in its standard quiz settings, which assign points to the question as a whole. Teachers usually split the question into parts or use a script or add-on for partial credit.
How should I weight questions when some concepts matter more than others?
Give more points to questions that test core concepts or harder skills, and fewer to recall items. Keep the total easy to convert to your grading scale.
Does DeckOwl export directly to Google Forms?
No. Plus includes PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export, and Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The free plan includes 3 generations per month and studying in the browser, and no credit card is needed to start.
