Why a custom grammar quiz beats a generic one

Tenses, comma rules and agreement errors make more sense when the quiz uses sentences from your own class. A grammar related quiz built from your lecture slides or textbook chapter tests the exact rules your instructor covered.

  • Pull questions straight from your own grammar notes or slides
  • Mix multiple choice, true/false and short-answer items in one quiz
  • Review explanations that name the rule, such as subject-verb agreement
  • The free plan includes 3 generations per month, and Plus gives unlimited generations
Example grammar quiz questions with answers
Choose the correct form: "If I ___ you, I would apologize." (were / was)were. The subjunctive mood uses "were" for hypothetical conditions, even with a singular subject.
Choose the correct verb: "Neither the students nor the teacher ___ finished." (has / have)has. With neither...nor, the verb agrees with the subject closer to it, which is the singular "teacher".
Which is correct: "Between you and I" or "Between you and me"?"Between you and me." Between is a preposition, so it takes the object pronoun "me".
True or false: A comma splice joins two independent clauses with only a comma.True. A comma splice is an error; fix it with a period, a semicolon or a coordinating conjunction.
Fix the dangling modifier: "Walking to class, the rain soaked me.""Walking to class, I got soaked by the rain." The original implies the rain was walking, so the opening phrase must describe the person.

Questions from your material

Upload PDFs, slides, DOCX files, plain notes or photos of pages. Your quiz covers the grammar topics you actually studied.

Explanations on every answer

Each multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer question includes an explanation that names the rule, so a wrong answer teaches you something.

Study in the browser

The free plan includes browser study. PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export are part of Plus, and QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export are part of Pro.

How it works

Upload your grammar material

Add a PDF, DOCX, slide deck, text file or a photo of a textbook page.

Choose question types

Pick multiple choice, true/false or open questions for your quiz.

Answer and review

Work through each question and read the explanation before moving on.

Explanations matter as much as the questions. When you miss a question about who versus whom, the reason is what you need for your next essay, so DeckOwl writes a short explanation for each answer.

Frequently asked questions

What grammar topics work best for a quiz?

Rules with clear right answers work best, such as subject-verb agreement, pronoun case, comma use, verb tense consistency and dangling modifiers. Upload a chapter on one of these and the questions will focus on it.

How should I study grammar rules I keep mixing up?

Take a short quiz on the confusing pair, read each explanation, then retake the missed items a day or two later to check that the rule stuck. Spacing your practice usually works better than rereading the rule.

Can I export my grammar quiz?

The free plan lets you study in the browser without exports. Plus includes PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export, and Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export.

How many quizzes can I make for free?

The free plan includes 3 generations per month. Plus, at $39 per year or $7.99 per month, gives unlimited generations, and students get 40% off with a school email.
