See how Moodle quizzes work and turn your notes into questions
DeckOwl reads your PDFs, slides or notes and drafts multiple-choice, true/false or open questions with explanations, so you can build practice that fits your course.
What happens inside a Moodle quiz
If you teach or take a course on Moodle, how Moodle quizzes work comes down to four parts: a question bank, the quiz settings, the attempt rules and the feedback students see. Each part can be changed without rebuilding the others.
- Question banks let you reuse the same questions across several quizzes in a course.
- Attempt settings control how many tries students get and which grading method applies.
- Feedback and review options decide when students see correct answers and explanations.
- Shuffle settings reduce copying by changing question and answer order between attempts.
Questions from your own material
Upload a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, text file or photo of a page, and get questions based on what your course actually covers.
Explanations for every answer
Each question comes with a short explanation, so you can check the reasoning before you add it to a quiz.
Export when you need it
Export to PDF or DOCX on Plus, and to QTI 2.1 or Moodle XML on Pro, to move questions into your course.
How it works
Upload your notes
Add a PDF, slide deck, Word file, plain text or a photo of your handout.
Choose question types
Pick multiple choice, true/false or open questions and review the drafts with their explanations.
Study or export
Practice in the browser on the free plan, or export to PDF, DOCX or Moodle XML on a paid plan.
Questions live in a question bank and are added to a quiz by reference, so one edit can update every quiz that uses that question. The quiz settings then decide how many attempts students get, whether questions and answers are shuffled, and how the final grade is calculated.
DeckOwl does not replace your Moodle course, but it can draft the questions that go into it. You upload your material, review the generated multiple-choice, true/false or short-answer items, and keep the ones that match your learning goals.

Frequently asked questions
How many questions should a Moodle quiz have?
There is no fixed number. Many instructors include at least one question per learning objective, and a question bank lets you draw a random subset for each attempt.
What is the difference between immediate and deferred feedback in Moodle?
Immediate feedback shows whether each answer is correct while the student works, while deferred feedback shows results after the attempt is submitted. Review options control what students see and when.
Can I export DeckOwl questions to Moodle?
Yes, Moodle XML and QTI 2.1 export are on the Pro plan. PDF and DOCX export are available on Plus.
Is DeckOwl free to try?
The free plan includes 3 generations per month and studying in the browser, and no credit card is needed to start. Exports require a paid plan.
