Turn your notes into quiz questions before you make the QR code
DeckOwl does not create QR codes or host quizzes. It drafts multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer questions from your own material, so the quiz is ready before you share it.
Where the QR code fits in
Most of the work behind making a QR code for Quizizz is the quiz itself, not the code. DeckOwl reads your PDF, slides, DOCX, plain notes or page photos and drafts questions with explanations, which you review before anything reaches students.
- DeckOwl drafts quiz questions; it does not generate QR codes or host quizzes.
- Check every drafted question against your source material before you share it.
- Test the QR code on at least two phones and a school network before the lesson.
- Exports to PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV are on Plus; QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML are on Pro.
Questions from your own files
Upload a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, plain notes or photos of pages. DeckOwl reads the text and drafts questions from it.
Explanations for every answer
Each multiple-choice, true/false or short-answer question comes with an explanation, so students learn why an answer is right.
Export on a paid plan
Plus exports to PDF and DOCX. Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML for learning management systems.
How it works
Upload your material
Add your lecture slides, a chapter PDF or your own notes. The free plan includes 3 generations per month.
Review and edit the questions
Check each question and explanation against your source, and remove anything that does not fit your lesson.
Build the QR code separately
Once the quiz is live on your chosen platform, generate a QR code from its link with any free QR tool and test it on a phone.
The QR code is a separate step. After the questions are final and the quiz exists on the platform you use, create a QR code from its link with any free generator. Print it large enough to scan from across the room, then test it on a phone before class.
If you want the questions outside DeckOwl, Plus exports PDF and DOCX and includes Anki and CSV export, and Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML. Students with a school email get 40% off, and no credit card is needed to start.

Frequently asked questions
How do I make a QR code that links to a quiz?
Copy the quiz link from your quiz platform, paste it into any free QR code generator, and download the image. Test the code on a phone before you print or project it.
How many questions should a short review quiz have?
A short review quiz works well with 5 to 10 questions that each cover one idea from the lesson. Longer quizzes take more class time, so match the count to the time you have.
Does DeckOwl create the QR code for me?
No. DeckOwl generates the quiz questions and explanations from your material. You create the QR code separately from the quiz link.
Can I export my questions on the free plan?
The free plan lets you study in the browser with 3 generations per month but does not include exports. Plus adds PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export, and Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML.
