Get host-ready quiz questions from your own notes

DeckOwl creates the questions for your live review, with explanations for every answer. It does not run live game sessions, so you host in your own platform and bring in the questions you generate here.

Preparing questions before you host

Before a live review starts, the quizizz host needs a question set that matches what the class actually studied. Writing every question by hand from a dense chapter takes time, so many hosts reuse old quizzes that no longer fit the lesson.

  • Pick one learning goal per question so players are not guessing what is being tested.
  • Keep answer choices similar in length so the correct one does not stand out.
  • Read each explanation aloud after the answer is revealed to reinforce the reason.
  • Save the set for a second round later in the week, when recall matters more.
Example review questions for a live quiz host
What makes a good distractor in a multiple-choice question?A plausible wrong answer that matches a common misconception, so a student who misunderstands the idea is tempted to pick it.
Why should each question in a timed live quiz have only one clearly correct answer?Ambiguous questions make players argue about scoring instead of learning, so the leaderboard reflects wording rather than knowledge.
What is the difference between formative and summative quizzes?Formative quizzes check understanding during learning and usually do not count toward a grade, while summative quizzes measure learning at the end.
Why pair a multiple-choice question with an explanation? The explanation shows why the correct answer is right and why the others are wrong, so a missed question becomes a lesson.
What should a host do when most players miss the same question?Pause and reteach that idea briefly before moving on, since a widespread miss usually signals a gap in understanding rather than careless play.

Questions from your material

Upload a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, notes or a photo of a page and get multiple-choice, true/false or open questions.

Explanations included

Each question comes with an explanation, so the host can reveal the reasoning right after players answer.

Export for your platform

On Pro, export QTI 2.1 or Moodle XML to bring questions into the learning system your class already uses.

How it works

Upload your material

Add the chapter, lecture slides or notes you want the review session to cover.

Generate and check

Review the questions and explanations, then remove or edit anything that does not match your lesson.

Export or study

Export to your platform on Pro, or study the set in the browser on the free plan.

DeckOwl reads your own files and drafts multiple-choice, true/false and open questions, each with an explanation. You check every item against your notes and keep only the ones that test what you taught.

Ask for a short set for a warm-up or a longer one for exam review, then run the session in whatever platform your class uses.

Frequently asked questions

How many questions should a live review quiz have?

Most review sessions work well with 10 to 20 questions, which leaves time for discussion without dragging. Shorter sets suit warm-ups, while longer ones fit end-of-unit reviews.

How should a host handle a question most players get wrong?

Pause on the explanation and ask a student to explain the reasoning in their own words. Then move on and add a similar question later so the idea gets a second look.

Does DeckOwl host live quiz games?

No. DeckOwl creates the questions from your PDFs, slides or notes, and you run the live session in your own quiz platform.

Which export formats are included?

The Free plan has no exports. Plus includes PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export, and Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML for importing into learning systems.
