Build a practice set instead of hunting for one

Standard English conventions on the SAT Reading and Writing section are easy to recognize once you see them and hard to recall under time pressure. Comma splices, misused apostrophes, subject-verb agreement and transitions all repeat, which makes them good material for a SAT language and writing practice test built from your own notes.

  • Questions drawn from your grammar notes, handouts or practice passages
  • Multiple-choice, true/false and short answer formats with explanations
  • Study in the browser on the free plan, with 3 generations per month
  • Plus adds unlimited generations and PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export
Example SAT language and writing practice questions
The collection of rare coins ___ displayed in the lobby. Which verb completes the sentence correctly: are or is?is. The subject is 'collection,' which is singular, so the verb must be singular too.
Which word is correct in this sentence: The museum reopened after ___ renovation? Choose its or it's.its. It is a possessive pronoun, and possessive its never takes an apostrophe.
Which punctuation correctly joins these two independent clauses: The test was long, the students were tired?A semicolon: The test was long; the students were tired. A comma alone creates a comma splice.
In 'The reforms ameliorated working conditions,' which word best replaces ameliorated: worsened or improved?improved. The context signals a positive change, and ameliorated means made better.
Which sentence has a misplaced modifier: Walking home, the rain soaked her?The sentence as written. Walking describes the rain, so revise to: Walking home, she was soaked by the rain.

The free plan includes 3 generations per month and study in the browser, while Plus adds PDF and DOCX exports.

Run the same topic several times, and use the explanations to catch patterns in your mistakes. Once a set is working, move your missed questions into flashcards and review them on a spacing schedule.

Frequently asked questions

How many questions should I practice for the SAT Reading and Writing section?

Short, frequent sessions tend to work better than one long session, so aim for a focused set of 10 to 20 questions on one rule at a time. Review each explanation before moving on to a new topic.

What grammar rules show up most often in SAT language and writing questions?

Common targets include subject-verb agreement, punctuation between independent clauses, apostrophes and possessive pronouns, transitions and modifier placement. Your notes or practice books are the best place to find the specific rules your course covers.

Can I export my practice quiz?

Exports are paid features. PDF and DOCX export are included in Plus at $39/year or $7.99/month, and QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export are included in Pro at $14.99/month.
