How the digital SAT time limits work

Knowing your SAT practice test time limit before you sit a full mock matters because the digital SAT is split into four timed modules. Reading and Writing gives 32 minutes for each of two 27-question modules, and Math gives 35 minutes for each of two 22-question modules. Practicing with those exact limits trains pacing as much as content.

  • Reading and Writing: two modules of 32 minutes each, 54 questions total.
  • Math: two modules of 35 minutes each, 44 questions total.
  • A 10-minute break comes after the second Reading and Writing module.
  • Pacing averages roughly 71 seconds per Reading and Writing question and 95 seconds per Math question.
