How to write video round quiz questions from your own material

Most video rounds hinge on one clip, a paused frame or a short sound, so the questions have to be written from what the clip shows or says. DeckOwl helps you write video round quiz questions from your own material: upload a PDF, slides, DOCX or notes, or paste a transcript, and get multiple-choice, true/false or open questions with explanations.

  • Multiple-choice, true/false and open questions in one set
  • An explanation for every correct answer
  • Accepts PDF, DOCX, PPTX, notes and photos of pages
  • Exports to PDF, DOCX, QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML on paid plans

Frequently asked questions

How many questions should a video round have?

Many video rounds use between 5 and 10 questions, so plan one question for each clip or moment you want to test. Keep the number that fits the time you have for the round.

How do I write good video round questions?

Ask about something visible or audible in the clip, such as a name, date or line of dialogue, and make sure only one answer is correct. A player who has not seen the clip should not be able to guess the answer.

Can I export the questions?

PDF and DOCX exports are on the Plus plan, and QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML exports are on Pro. The Free plan lets you study in the browser with 3 generations per month.

Does DeckOwl accept video files?

No, it accepts PDF, DOCX, PPTX, plain notes and photos of pages. For a video clip, paste in a transcript or your own notes about it.
