Why build your own kinetics cards

Rate equations, orders of reaction and the Arrhenius equation come up again and again in AQA A-level chemistry, so a stack of AQA A-level chemistry kinetics flashcards built from your own notes is one of the quickest ways to keep them fresh.

  • Rate of reaction, rate constant and order of reaction as separate cards
  • Rate equation rearrangements and units for k in different orders
  • Half-life calculations and concentration-time graph interpretation
  • Activation energy, catalysts and the Boltzmann distribution
Example AQA A-level chemistry kinetics flashcards
What is the rate of a reaction? The change in concentration of a reactant or product per unit time.
What does a zero-order reaction mean for the rate? The rate does not depend on the concentration of that reactant, so a plot of rate against concentration is a horizontal line.
What does the Arrhenius equation show? How the rate constant k changes with temperature: k = Ae^(-Ea/RT), where A is the pre-exponential factor and Ea is the activation energy.
How does a catalyst change the rate of a reaction? It provides an alternative pathway with lower activation energy, so more molecules have enough energy to react. It is not used up overall.
What is the rate-determining step? The slowest step in a reaction mechanism, which controls the overall rate and can be used to derive the rate equation.

Built from your own material

Upload PDFs, PowerPoint slides, Word notes, plain text or photos of textbook pages and get cards that match your specification notes.

Spaced repetition

Cards you find difficult come back sooner, so kinetics definitions and rate equation rearrangements stick before the exam.

Export when you need it

Plus users can export to PDF, DOCX, Anki or CSV to print a revision sheet or continue in another app.

How it works

Upload your notes

Add a PDF, slides, a Word document, plain text or a photo of your kinetics notes from class.

Generate your flashcards

DeckOwl reads the material and writes question and answer cards you can edit before studying.

Study with spaced repetition

Review a short session each day and let the schedule bring back the cards you find hardest.

Ready-made card sets rarely match the exact wording and examples your teacher used. Generating cards from your own lesson notes or past paper mark schemes keeps the language and the emphasis aligned with your course.

Frequently asked questions

Which kinetics topics should my flashcards cover for AQA A-level chemistry?

Focus on rate of reaction, orders of reaction, the rate equation, rate constant units, half-lives, the Arrhenius equation, activation energy, catalysts and rate-determining steps. Check your specification and past papers so your cards match what is assessed.

How many kinetics flashcards should I make before an exam?

Most students find that a focused set of 40 to 60 cards covering one topic at a time is easier to review than one huge deck. Add cards after each lesson and keep the deck to the topics you have actually covered.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. The free plan includes 3 generations per month and lets you study in the browser, but it does not include exports.

Can I export my kinetics flashcards to Anki?

Yes, Plus users can export to Anki, along with PDF, DOCX and CSV. Plus is $39/year or $7.99/month, and students get 40% off with a school email.
