Build a greetings deck from your own material

Most beginners start with a short set of Chinese greetings flashcards, covering 你好 (nǐ hǎo) and the phrases from the first lesson. Keeping the list small and daily makes the early phrases stick.

  • Put the pinyin with tone marks on the front so you practice pronunciation before checking the meaning.
  • Add a short cultural note to the back, such as when a greeting is used and who you would say it to.
  • Review a few cards each day rather than one long session once a week.
  • Say each phrase aloud before flipping the card, then check your pronunciation against the audio in your course.
Example Chinese greetings flashcards
What does 你好 (nǐ hǎo) mean?Hello. It is the everyday greeting and works at any time of day.
What does 早上好 (zǎo shang hǎo) mean?Good morning. Use it until about late morning.
What does 晚安 (wǎn ān) mean?Good night. Say it when parting in the evening or going to bed, not as a hello.
How do you ask someone 'How are you?' in Chinese?你好吗? (nǐ hǎo ma?). A common reply is 我很好 (wǒ hěn hǎo), meaning 'I am fine.'
What does 再见 (zài jiàn) mean?Goodbye. Literally it means 'see again.'

Built from your material

Cards come from the vocabulary your teacher actually covered, not a generic list.

Review in the browser on the free plan, or export to Anki on Plus.

How it works

Upload your notes

Add a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, text file or a photo of a page. Handwritten pages are read with text recognition.

Generate the deck

DeckOwl creates flashcards with the Chinese phrase, pinyin and meaning from your material.

Review on a schedule

Practice daily. Cards you struggle with appear more often until they become automatic.

If you were hoping for a ready-made printable sheet, you can still get one that fits your course. DeckOwl builds a custom deck from the vocabulary in your own lesson PDF, slides or photos of your notes, so the cards match what you were taught.

Each card can hold the characters, pinyin with tone marks and an English meaning. Seeing all three together helps you recognize the phrase when someone says it out loud.
