Turn your own course notes into quizzes with explained answers
DeckOwl does not pull answers from Canvas or any course site. Upload your PDFs, slides or notes and get multiple-choice, true/false or short-answer questions with explanations you can study from.
Why generated practice beats copied answers
A canvas quiz answers extension promises a shortcut, but the answers belong to someone else's course and rarely explain why they are right. DeckOwl takes the material you already have, such as lecture PDFs, DOCX handouts, PPTX slides or photos of notes, and writes questions with explanations. You learn the reasoning, which is what exams test.
- Questions come only from files you upload
- Explanations that show why an answer is right
- Free plan includes 3 generations per month and browser study
- Spaced repetition for the questions you keep missing
Built from your files
Upload PDFs, DOCX files, PPTX slides, plain-text notes or photos of pages. Text in images is read with text recognition.
Explanations included
Multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer questions each come with an explanation of the correct response.
Study tools in one place
Turn the same material into flashcards with spaced repetition or a mind map when you need the big picture.
How it works
Upload your material
Add a PDF, slide deck, document or photo of your notes.
Pick a quiz format
Choose multiple-choice, true/false or short answer for the topic you are studying.
Answer, then review
Check each explanation and redo the questions you missed.
Start by uploading the readings or slides from the unit you are studying. Answer each question before reading its explanation, since working it out first is what makes the material stick. Then review every miss and move it into flashcards to repeat later.

Frequently asked questions
Can DeckOwl show the answers to a Canvas quiz?
No. DeckOwl works only from files you upload, such as your own notes, slides or PDFs. It creates new practice questions from that material rather than pulling answers from a course site.
How do I study biology from my own lecture slides?
Upload the slides, answer the quiz without looking at notes, and read each explanation carefully. Redo the missed questions a day later, since spacing your review improves recall.
Can I export my quiz to Moodle or another learning system?
Exports are paid features. Pro includes QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export, and Plus includes PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The free plan includes 3 generations per month and studying in the browser, and no credit card is needed to start. Exports require a paid plan.
