Why Canvas quizzes get locked and what to do

A canvas quiz locked notice almost always traces back to a setting your instructor chose, such as an availability window, an access code or an attempt limit.

Check the availability dates shown on the quiz page.
Ask whether an access code is required and who can share it.
Confirm how many attempts are allowed and whether any remain.
Message your instructor with the quiz name if the settings look wrong.

Example reasons a Canvas quiz is locked

A Canvas quiz shows as locked before its start date. What is the most likely cause?The instructor set an availability start date that has not arrived yet. The quiz stays closed until that date, even if it is visible in the course.
