Turn your notes into a quiz with multiple correct answers
Upload your slides, PDFs or notes and get multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer questions with explanations. Write items where several options are right, then set them up as Multiple Answers in Canvas.
Writing multiple-correct questions for Canvas
Most quiz questions accept one right option, but a canvas quiz with multiple correct answers uses Canvas's Multiple Answers question type, where students select every option that applies. The format works well when a topic has several true facts, such as a list of properties or classifications.
- Say 'select all that apply' in the question stem so students know more than one option can be correct.
- Keep the number of correct options varied, so students cannot guess the pattern.
- Avoid options that overlap in meaning, which can make two correct answers look like one.
- Review every question against your source material before you publish it to students.
Questions built from your material
DeckOwl reads PDFs, DOCX, PPTX, plain text and photos of pages, then drafts questions based on what your course actually covers.
Explanations for every option
Each question includes an explanation, so you can check why each option is right or wrong before students see it.
Export when you need it
Export to PDF or DOCX on Plus. QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export are available on Pro, so you can move questions into your LMS.
How it works
Upload your material
Add a PDF, slide deck, document, text notes or a photo of a page.
Generate and review questions
Get a set of questions with explanations, then edit any stem or option so that more than one answer is correct where it should be.
Study or export
Practice in the browser on the free plan, or export on a paid plan and build the quiz in Canvas using the Multiple Answers type.
Start from your own lecture slides or readings. Write the stem so the task is clear, then check each option on its own: if two or more options independently meet the criteria, the question belongs in the multiple-answer format rather than Multiple Choice.
Keep distractors plausible and make sure every correct option is supported by your course material. Adding a short explanation to each question helps students see why each choice is right or wrong.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know a question has more than one correct answer?
Judge each option as true or false on its own. If two or more options independently meet the criteria, use the Multiple Answers format rather than Multiple Choice.
Should I tell students how many answers are correct?
Many instructors state it in the stem, such as 'select all that apply,' but avoid giving the exact count if you want students to evaluate each option carefully.
Can I export a quiz for Canvas from DeckOwl?
QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export are on the Pro plan at $14.99/month, and PDF and DOCX export are on Plus at $39/year or $7.99/month. Confirm that your Canvas import accepts the file format before you rely on it.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The free plan includes 3 generations per month and browser study, and you do not need a credit card to start. Students with a school email get 40% off.
