Turn your notes into Moodle questions with several right answers
Upload slides, PDFs or notes and get multiple-choice questions where more than one option is correct, each with an explanation you can check before it goes into your course.
How multiple-answer grading works in Moodle
Moodle's multiple choice question type can accept more than one right answer once multiple answers are allowed, but writing each option and its grade fraction by hand takes time. DeckOwl reads your slides, PDFs or notes and drafts Moodle quiz questions with multiple correct answers with explanations you can edit before you use them.
- Allow multiple answers and make sure the positive fractions total 100%.
- Write options that are each clearly true or false, with no overlapping wording.
- Use instructions such as Select all that apply so students know to tick more than one box.
- Check each explanation against your course notes before importing the questions.
Several correct options per question
Each question can mark more than one answer as correct, so students select every option that applies instead of picking a single choice.
Explanations for every answer
Each option comes with a short reason it is right or wrong, which helps you review the draft and gives students feedback after they answer.
Moodle XML export on Pro
The Pro plan exports questions as Moodle XML so you can import them into your course question bank without retyping each option.
How it works
Upload your material
Add a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, text file or photos of pages. Images are read with text recognition.
Pick multiple-answer questions
Choose multiple-choice questions and allow more than one correct answer, then set how many items you want.
Review and export
Check the answers and explanations, study in the browser, and export to Moodle XML on the Pro plan.
In Moodle, the positive fractions for the correct options should add up to 100%, so a student who selects all of them earns full credit. Partial credit usually works by giving each correct option a smaller share and giving wrong options a negative fraction, which discourages guessing every choice.
Plus and Pro plans let you export the material in other formats, and Pro adds Moodle XML so the finished questions can go straight into your course. The free plan covers three generations a month and studying in the browser.

Frequently asked questions
How do I set up a Moodle multiple choice question with more than one correct answer?
Open the multiple choice question settings and set Multiple answers allowed to Yes. Then give each correct option a positive grade fraction so that the correct fractions total 100%.
How many correct answers should a multiple-answer question have?
Most instructors use two or three correct options among four to five choices, so the question stays challenging without becoming a guessing exercise. Make sure each correct option is unambiguous when you write it.
Can DeckOwl export directly to Moodle?
Yes, on the Pro plan, which exports Moodle XML and QTI 2.1. PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV exports are available on the Plus plan.
Is there a free way to try it first?
The free plan includes three generations per month and lets you study in the browser, and no credit card is needed to start. Exports are not included on the free plan.
