How to show answers in a Google Forms quiz

If you want respondents to show answers in a Google Forms quiz instead of only a score, the switch is in Settings, not in the question editor.

  • Settings, then Quizzes: switch on Make this a quiz
  • Tick Correct answers under Respondent can see
  • Pick a Release grade timing that fits your class
  • Write one clear explanation per question for review

Questions from your own material

Upload a PDF, slides, DOCX, plain notes or a photo of a page and get multiple-choice, true/false or open questions.

Explanations with every answer

Each question comes with a short explanation so learners see why the right answer is correct.

Export on paid plans

Plus adds PDF and DOCX export. Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML for learning systems.

How it works

Upload your notes

Add a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, text file or photo of a page.

Review the questions

Check each answer and explanation against your source before you use it.

Study or export

Practice in the browser on the free plan, or export on a paid plan.

Google Forms only reveals correct answers when the quiz option is on and the correct answers checkbox is ticked. Missed questions and point values can be shown as well, so decide which of these your learners need before you share the link.

The questions themselves are often the slow part. DeckOwl can read your PDFs, slides or notes and draft multiple-choice, true/false or short-answer questions with explanations, which you can then review and use in your own form or study in the browser.

Frequently asked questions

Why don't my respondents see the correct answers after submitting?

Check that the quiz option is on under Settings, then Quizzes, and that Correct answers is ticked under Respondent can see. Also check Release grade, because a later option hides results until you publish them.

How should I study for a quiz I plan to share as a Google Form?

Write each question to test one idea, then make sure the explanation says why the right answer is correct. Start from your lecture slides or notes and check every answer against the source.

How many questions work best in a practice quiz for a first study session?

Around 10 to 15 questions is a manageable first session for most topics. Adjust the number based on how long the material is and how much time you have.

Does DeckOwl create Google Forms for me?

No. DeckOwl generates quiz questions with explanations from your PDFs, slides or notes, and you can study them in the browser on the free plan with 3 generations per month. Exports to PDF and DOCX need Plus, and QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML need Pro.
