How to build a kinematics question set that matches the MCAT

Working through MCAT kinematics practice questions is one of the fastest ways to get comfortable with displacement, velocity and acceleration before test day. Kinematics questions on the Chemical and Physical Foundations section often ask you to move between words, graphs and equations in the same problem.

  • Cover free fall, constant acceleration and projectile motion, not just one type
  • Include graph questions that ask you to interpret slope and area
  • Write down the equation you used before checking the explanation
  • Repeat missed questions after a few days instead of right away
Example MCAT kinematics practice questions
A ball is dropped from rest and falls freely for 2 s. Ignoring air resistance, how far does it fall? (g = 9.8 m/s²)About 19.6 m. Starting from rest, d = ½gt² = ½(9.8)(2²), so the distance follows directly from the constant-acceleration equation.
A car speeds up uniformly from 0 to 20 m/s in 5 s. What is its acceleration?4 m/s². Acceleration is the change in velocity divided by the time taken, so 20 ÷ 5 = 4.
True or false: with negligible air resistance, a projectile's horizontal velocity stays constant during flight.True. No horizontal force acts on the projectile, so only the vertical velocity changes because of gravity.
On a velocity-time graph, what does the area under the curve represent?Displacement. Each small slice of area equals velocity times time, and the sum of those slices gives the total displacement.
A projectile launched at 30 m/s at 90° reaches what maximum height? (g = 10 m/s²)45 m. Using h = v²sin²θ / 2g gives 900 ÷ 20 = 45 m, because all the initial velocity is vertical at this angle.

Questions from your own material

Start with the kinematics chapter, lecture slides or handwritten notes you already have. The questions come from what you are studying.

Explanations for every answer

Each question includes a short explanation, so a wrong answer shows you which equation or graph reading to revisit.

Three question formats

Choose multiple choice, true/false or short answer, and mix them to practice recognition and recall.

How it works

Upload your material

Add a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, text notes or a photo of a page. Photos are read with text recognition.

Pick a question type

Choose multiple choice, true/false or short answer and set how many questions you want.

Practice and review

Answer in the browser, read the explanations and come back to missed questions on a spaced schedule.

A useful set mixes free-fall, constant-acceleration and projectile problems, along with questions that ask you to read a velocity-time graph rather than calculate from a formula. Upload your own notes so the questions reflect the course material you are actually studying.

Review every explanation, not just the score. If you can say why an answer is wrong, you are more likely to recognize the same setup on exam day.

Frequently asked questions

How many kinematics practice questions should I do before the MCAT?

There is no fixed number, but working through a set on each motion type until you can explain every answer is a practical goal. Repeat the questions you missed after a few days.

What kinematics topics do MCAT questions usually cover?

Expect displacement, velocity and acceleration, constant-acceleration equations, free fall, projectile motion and reading position, velocity and acceleration graphs.

Can I turn my own kinematics notes into practice questions?

Yes. Upload a PDF, slides or a photo of your pages and DeckOwl writes multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer questions with explanations. The free plan includes 3 generations per month.

Can I export these questions to Moodle or Anki?

Exports are paid features. Plus includes PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export, and Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export.
