A quiz platform that builds practice tests from your own notes
Upload a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, text file or a photo of a page. DeckOwl writes multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer questions with explanations that you can study in the browser.
What a quiz platform for lessons needs to do
Teachers and students who already have a lecture video usually also have slides, a transcript or notes that hold the same material, and that text is what a quiz platform should build questions from. DeckOwl does not host or record video, so it works from the text in your files: upload slides, notes or a PDF and it writes questions with explanations.
- Questions drawn from the exact slides or notes you upload
- Multiple choice, true/false and open questions with explanations
- Free plan includes browser study with 3 generations per month
- Plus adds PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export, and Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML
Works from your files
Upload PDF, DOCX, PPTX, plain text or a photo of a page. Photos are read with text recognition.
Three question types
Multiple choice, true/false and short answer questions, each with an explanation of the correct answer.
Study in the browser
The free plan includes 3 generations a month and browser study, with no credit card needed to start.
How it works
Upload your material
Add a slide deck, document, set of notes or a photo of a page.
Choose question types
Pick multiple choice, true/false or short answer for the quiz you want to build.
Review and study
Read the explanations, fix anything that looks wrong, then work through the quiz in the browser.
Questions generated from your own wording stay aligned with what was actually taught. Review each one before sharing, because the model can misread dense tables or blurry photos of handwritten pages.

Frequently asked questions
How many practice questions should I write for one lecture?
Most lectures cover a handful of main ideas, so start with about 10 questions that address each idea once. Add more on the topics you keep missing after reviewing the explanations.
What makes a good multiple-choice question for studying?
Each wrong option should be plausible but clearly incorrect on a second look. The explanation should say why the correct answer fits, because that teaches more than the score alone.
Does DeckOwl work with video lectures?
DeckOwl does not host or record video. Upload the slides, transcript or notes from the lecture and it writes questions from that text.
Which export formats are included in paid plans?
Plus at $39/year or $7.99/month includes PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export. Pro at $14.99/month adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export.
