Turn your notes into quiz questions that match Canvas outcomes
Upload PDFs, slides or notes and get multiple-choice, true/false or open questions with explanations, written around the outcomes your course is measuring.
How to write quiz questions that measure canvas outcomes
Strong Canvas quiz outcomes begin with a short list of what students should be able to do by the end of a unit. Each outcome should name an observable action, because a verb like "compare" can be checked with a question and a verb like "understand" cannot.
- Write each outcome as one observable action with a clear object, such as "classify" or "calculate".
- Keep one skill per question so a wrong answer points to a specific outcome.
- Use the explanations to show students why the correct option fits the outcome.
- Review a sample of generated questions before assigning them to a class.
Questions from your own material
Upload PDFs, DOCX files, PPTX slides, plain text or photos of pages, and get questions drawn from what you actually taught.
Three question types
Choose multiple choice, true/false or open questions, each with an explanation students can read after they answer.
Export for your LMS
Download PDF or DOCX on Plus. QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export are available on Pro for importing into your learning management system.
How it works
List your outcomes
Write down the outcomes your course tracks, such as what students should be able to explain, compare or solve by the end of a unit.
Upload the source material
Add the readings, slides or notes that cover those outcomes. Scanned pages are read with text recognition.
Generate and review
Pick the question types, generate the set, and check each question against the outcome it is meant to test before you publish it.
Once the outcomes are written, generate questions from the readings or slides that teach them. Review each question and ask whether a student who answers it correctly has shown the specific skill the outcome describes. Questions that only test recall of a term often need rewriting.

Frequently asked questions
How do I write an outcome that a quiz question can measure?
Start with a measurable verb such as explain, compare, classify or solve, and name the content it applies to. Then write a question that asks the student to perform that action, not just repeat a definition.
How many questions should I write for each outcome?
Three to five questions per outcome is a common starting point, mixing easier recall items with harder application items. Adjust the count based on how much time the outcome gets in class.
Can I export the questions to Canvas directly?
QTI 2.1 export is available on the Pro plan, so you can download a file in that format and check whether your LMS imports it. Plus includes PDF and DOCX export for sharing or printing.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The free plan includes 3 generations per month and studying in the browser, but exports are not included. No credit card is needed to start.
