Turn your lecture notes into Moodle quiz sections
Upload PDFs, slides or notes and get multiple-choice, true/false or open questions with explanations, ready to group under the section headings you need.
How quiz sections work in Moodle
Teachers who run a Moodle course often want one quiz split into topic blocks, such as definitions first and calculations second. Moodle handles this with section headings, and each moodle quiz sections entry you add groups the questions listed beneath it until the next heading appears.
- A section heading is a label only and does not count as a question or add to the grade.
- Moodle XML files import questions into the question bank, not the section structure, so headings are added in the quiz itself.
- Each section heading can have its own shuffle setting in recent Moodle versions, so questions can be randomized within one block.
- Review every generated question before publishing, since you are responsible for the accuracy of what students see.
Questions from your own material
Upload a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, text file or a photo of a page, and DeckOwl writes questions based only on that content.
Multiple question types
Choose multiple-choice, true/false or open questions, each with an explanation so students learn why an answer is right.
Moodle XML export
On the Pro plan, export your questions as Moodle XML and import them into your question bank, then place them under section headings in your quiz.
How it works
Upload your notes or slides
Add a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, plain text file or image of a page. Text is read automatically, including from photos.
Pick question types and topics
Select multiple-choice, true/false or open questions and the parts of the material you want each group of questions to cover.
Export or study
Study in the browser on the free plan, or export to PDF, DOCX or Anki on Plus, and to Moodle XML on Pro.
Writing enough questions for every section takes time, especially when the source is a long lecture deck. DeckOwl reads that material and drafts questions with explanations that you can review, edit and then place under the right heading in your quiz.
