Turn your notes into a Google Forms quiz in minutes

Google Forms can grade a quiz once you set it up, but writing the questions takes the longest. DeckOwl drafts multiple-choice, true/false and open questions with explanations from your own material.

Setting up quiz mode in Google Forms

Most of the time spent on a Google Forms quiz goes into writing good questions, not into switching on quiz mode. Start from the chapter, lecture or document your class is covering so every question matches what students were taught.

  • Quiz mode must be switched on in Settings before you can add an answer key.
  • Multiple choice, checkboxes and dropdown questions are graded automatically once the answer key is set.
  • Short answer responses are only auto-graded when they match the answers you list, so review the rest by hand.
  • Release grade settings control whether students see their score and which missed questions they get to review.

Frequently asked questions

How many questions should a Google Forms quiz have?

There is no fixed number, but a typical unit check works well with 10 to 20 questions. Mix question types so the quiz tests recall and application, not just recognition.

Should I use short answer questions in a Google Forms quiz?

Use them when recall matters, but expect to review most responses yourself. Google Forms only matches exact text against your answer key, so accepted synonyms need to be added one by one.

Can I export a DeckOwl quiz straight into Google Forms?

No, DeckOwl does not export directly to Google Forms. Exports are paid features: Plus includes PDF and DOCX, and Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML.

Is there a free way to try DeckOwl first?

Yes, the free plan gives you 3 generations per month and lets you study in the browser, and no credit card is needed to start. Exports require a paid plan.
